A sensational rehabilitated site
L’Autre Usine is France’s largest indoor sports and leisure complex. It’s also a place steeped in history, right in the heart of Cholet. Covering 16,000 m², this former flagship of Cholet’s industry has been completely refurbished to become a true temple of entertainment.
It now boasts over twenty sports and leisure activities, a restaurant and bar area and seminar rooms.
A building with a rich history
In 1938, the emblematic building we know today as l’Autre Usine was built on the rue de Bourgneuf in Cholet. At the time, it housed the workshops of Ernault, an industry specialised in the manufacture of lathes and machine tools. This company, at the cutting edge of industrial innovation, grew steadily over the decades.
In the 1970s, Ernault even became a key player, positioning itself as the European leader in its field. At its peak, the plant employed more than 900 people, making a significant contribution to the economic dynamism of the Cholet region.
Despite its dazzling success, the years went by and the production business gradually declined. Technological developments and changes in the international market resulted in the end of an era. The factory, once a symbol of Cholet’s industrial boom, saw its activities decrease. In 2007, after nearly 70 years in business, the plant finally closed its doors, leaving behind an industrial legacy marked by years of hard work.
Today, this site steeped in history has been reinvented. It hosts a different kind of effervescence, that of leisure and entertainment.
L’Autre Usine appears
In 2010, RGV Groupe bought the Ernault factory, which had been abandoned for years. After 6 years of major work, l’Autre Usine opened its doors on 1 April 2016, transforming the industrial site into a huge space dedicated to sport and leisure.
Where machines once echoed, now laughter, go-kart acceleration, basketball dribbling and bowling strikes resound. Workers have given way to entertainers, bartenders and cooks. The place is transformed: people no longer come to produce, but to have fun, relax and share good times with family, friends or colleagues.
